Chapter 64 - THE WOMAN BEHIND THE DOORThe door opened.
Noah saw her.
Mara.
Older.
Thinner.
Her hair had turned silver.
But her eyes were the same.
Noah could not move.
Neither could she.
For twelve years, he had imagined this moment.
He had imagined anger.
Questions.
Accusations.
But when he finally saw her, he was only a child again.
“Mom?”
Mara covered her mouth.
Then she walked toward him.
Noah stepped forward.
They embraced.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
Then Noah whispered:
“You were alive.”
Mara cried.
“I tried to come home.”
“Why didn't you?”
“Because they told me you were dead.”
Noah froze.
“What?”
Mara explained that the White Star had told her Noah had died in the accident.
She had believed it.
The organization had kept her imprisoned.
They had used her research.
But they had never found the final key.
Noah.
Mara looked at him.
“You were the last piece.”
Noah shook his head.
“No.”

He looked toward Ethan, Eliza, and Ava.
“We all are.”
