“Tell me everything.”
Ava took a deep breath.
“My parents worked for a research company.”
“What company?”
“Not Vale Biomechanics.”
She shook her head.
“They were working with the White Star.”
Catherine frowned.
“The White Star was supposed to protect children.”
Ava nodded.
“It was.”
“Then what happened?”
Ava looked at Noah.
“Someone betrayed it.”
She explained that her parents had discovered a secret project.
The project was designed to identify children with rare genetic markers.
Children who could potentially benefit from advanced treatments.
But someone had begun selling the information.
When Ava's parents tried to stop it, they disappeared.
Ava had been only nine years old.
She had been hidden in a safe house.
And the woman who had brought her there was Mara.
Noah stared at her.
“Why didn't my mother tell me about you?”
