“You knew.”
Richard did not deny it.
“Yes.”
Noah's voice became colder.
“Why?”
Richard looked at the photograph.
“Because your mother believed the four of you could help develop a treatment.”
“And you agreed?”
“At first.”
“What changed?”
Richard looked away.
“Money.”
The word hung in the room.
Richard explained that investors wanted results.
They wanted the treatment completed quickly.
When Mara refused to continue without proper safeguards, the project began to collapse.
Richard chose the company.
Mara chose the children.
That was the beginning of the war between them.
Noah looked at him.
“Did you ever love us?”
Richard looked up.
“Yes.”
“Then why did you choose the company?”
Richard's eyes filled with tears.
“Because I thought I could fix everything later.”
