Chapter 44 - RICHARD'S FINAL DECISIONRichard had one final choice.
He could spend the rest of his life defending himself.
Or he could spend it repairing what he had damaged.
He chose the second.
He testified against every remaining member of the Black Circle.
He gave the government access to every financial record.
He surrendered his private archives.
He named every person involved.
Some people called him a hero.
Others called him a criminal.
Richard accepted both.
He knew he was neither entirely good nor entirely evil.
He was simply a man who had made terrible choices.
And now he had to live with them.
One afternoon, he visited Mara's grave.
Noah stood beside him.
Richard placed flowers on the stone.
“I should have protected you,” he said.
Noah looked at the grave.
“You can't change the past.”
Richard nodded.
“No.”
Noah looked at him.
“But you can stop lying about it.”
May you like
Richard lowered his head.
“I will.”
