The Trap In The Bathroom / Chapter 8 / 50

Chapter 8 - The Lawyer's SecretArthur immediately stepped backward.

“That document is forged.”

Ethan laughed.

“I expected you to say that.”

Mark stared between them.

“Arthur, tell me the truth.”

Arthur's face was pale.

“I did move money.”

Mark's expression hardened.

“How much?”

Arthur looked down.

“Over twenty million dollars.”

Sarah gasped.

“For whom?”

Arthur hesitated.

“Your father.”

Mark's hands clenched.

“What was it for?”

“Protection.”

Arthur explained that Mark's father had discovered a criminal organization using Vance Logistics to move illegal money through legitimate shipping routes.

He tried to expose them.

They threatened his family.

So Arthur helped create offshore accounts.

Ethan was sent away.

Mark was deliberately kept ignorant.

And Clara—

Clara had eventually discovered everything.

Mark whispered:

“Then why didn't you tell me?”

Arthur looked directly at him.

“Because your father made me promise.”

“Even after he died?”

Arthur nodded.

“Especially after he died.”

Mark turned away.

His entire understanding of his childhood had collapsed.

Then Ethan spoke.

“There's one more thing.”

Mark looked back.

“What?”

“Your father wasn't the mastermind.”

“Who was?”

Ethan stared at him.

“The company wasn't controlled by one person.”

He pointed toward the ceiling.

“It was controlled by a board.”

Mark frowned.

“Which board?”

Ethan's voice became quiet.

“The Vance Family Foundation.”

Sarah's eyes widened.

“Who sits on it?”

Ethan looked at Mark.

“Your mother.”

Mark's face went cold.

“My mother is dead.”

May you like

Ethan nodded.

“That's what everyone believes.”
