Chapter 16 - The Man Behind the CompanyThe flash drive contained encrypted financial records.
Arthur worked through the night trying to unlock them.
Finally, one file opened.
A name appeared.
Jonathan Vance.
Mark stared.
“Who is Jonathan?”
Ethan answered:
“Our uncle.”
Mark shook his head.
“He died before I was born.”
Ethan looked at him.
“No.”
Mark's face changed.
“Another fake death?”
Ethan nodded.
Jonathan had been the original architect of the Vance Foundation.
He had created shell companies across five countries.
He had disappeared after their father's death.
But the records showed payments continuing for twenty years.
Someone had been sending Jonathan money.
Mark looked at Arthur.
“Who?”
Arthur opened the final document.
The payment authorization was signed by—
Eleanor.
Mark's voice dropped.
“My mother and my uncle.”
Ethan nodded.
“Together.”
Rebecca looked at him.
“And Clara discovered them.”
Mark suddenly understood.
Victoria was only one piece.
Eleanor was another.
But Jonathan was the real architect.
Then the computer beeped.
A new message appeared on the screen.
