The Trap In The Bathroom / Chapter 18 / 50

Chapter 18 - The Man Who Should Have DiedJonathan Vance looked almost eighty.

But his eyes were sharp.

Cold.

Focused.

Victoria stood beside him.

Mark immediately called Detective Miller.

“Don't move.”

But Jonathan raised his hand.

“Mark.”

His voice was calm.

“You've inherited your father's stubbornness.”

Mark opened the front door.

“You killed Clara.”

Jonathan smiled.

“No.”

“Then why are you here?”

“To offer you a choice.”

Mark laughed bitterly.

“You murdered my wife.”

Jonathan shook his head.

“Your wife was murdered because she refused to understand how this family survives.”

Ethan stepped forward.

“You used us.”

Jonathan looked at him.

“I saved you.”

“You destroyed our family.”

“No.”

Jonathan's expression hardened.

“Your family destroyed itself.”

Victoria stepped forward.

“I told you he would never listen.”

Jonathan looked at her.

“You were never supposed to survive the investigation.”

Victoria froze.

Mark noticed.

“What did you just say?”

Jonathan turned away.

Victoria looked terrified.

“You promised me protection.”

Jonathan ignored her.

Mark suddenly realized something.

Victoria wasn't Jonathan's partner.

May you like

She was his liability.

And liabilities were disposable.
