Chapter 14 - Clara's SisterThe woman's name was Rebecca.
According to the photograph, she was twenty-eight years old.
Clara had never mentioned her.
Not once.
Mark felt betrayed.
“Why would Clara hide a sister from me?”
Ethan examined the documents.
“She wasn't hiding her.”
“What do you mean?”
“She was protecting her.”
A letter explained that Rebecca had been investigating the Vance Foundation independently.
She discovered Eleanor's involvement.
Then she disappeared.
Arthur found another document.
“She may still be alive.”
Mark looked at him.
“Where?”
Arthur pointed to a recent address.
A private rehabilitation center.
Mark immediately reached for his coat.
Ethan stopped him.
“Wait.”
“Why?”
“Because if Rebecca is alive, Eleanor already knows.”
Sarah understood.
“She'll try to silence her.”
Ethan nodded.
Mark looked toward Lily.
“I can't leave her.”
Sarah stepped forward.
“Then don't.”
“I'll stay with her.”
Mark looked at Sarah.
“You're sure?”
Sarah smiled faintly.
“I've protected her before.”
Mark nodded.
Then he turned to Ethan.
“Let's go.”

Neither brother noticed the small red light blinking inside the room.
Someone was listening.
