Chapter 17 - The Dead Man's PhoneDetective Miller arrived at midnight.

The message was traced.
Not to Jonathan.
But to a phone registered under Clara's name.
Mark stared at the screen.
“Clara's phone was buried with her.”
Miller shook his head.
“Apparently not.”
The signal was active.
Thirty miles away.
Mark's heart began racing.
“Can we trace it?”
“We're trying.”
The location changed.
Then changed again.
Someone was moving.
Ethan looked at the map.
“It's heading toward the estate.”
Everyone froze.
The phone was coming closer.
Ten miles.
Five.
Two.
Then—
The signal disappeared.
Sarah looked toward the driveway.
“Did anyone hear that?”
A vehicle had stopped outside.
Mark walked toward the window.
A woman stepped out.
She was holding a small black phone.
Mark recognized her.
Victoria.
But she wasn't alone.
A man stepped out behind her.
Tall.
Grey-haired.
Mark stared.

Ethan whispered:
“Jonathan.”
