Chapter 27 - Someone You LoveMark listened again.
Clara's voice continued.
“He has access to every account. Every document. Every security system.”
Mark whispered:
“Who?”
The recording stopped.
A second recording began automatically.
Clara's voice was quieter.
“I couldn't say his name.”
Then another voice appeared.
A man's voice.
Mark recognized it.
Arthur.
The recording captured him arguing with Clara.
“You don't understand what you're dealing with.”
Clara replied:
“I understand perfectly.”
Arthur said:
“You're going to get yourself killed.”
Clara answered:
“Then help me.”
Arthur's voice became cold.
“I can't.”
The recording ended.
Mark stared at Arthur.
“You knew.”
Arthur looked devastated.
“I tried to protect you.”
“You lied to me.”
“Yes.”
“You knew Clara was going to die.”
Arthur's eyes filled with tears.
“I knew she was in danger.”
“Why didn't you stop it?”
Arthur whispered:
“Because I was afraid.”
Mark turned away.
Then Ethan found another recording.
This one contained a name.
Daniel Vance.
May you like
