Chapter 35 - The Night of Clara's DeathThe sedative explained everything.

Clara hadn't died suddenly.
She had been incapacitated first.
Someone had wanted her conscious enough to understand what was happening.
Mark felt sick.
Ethan found a hospital record.
Clara had secretly visited a doctor two days before her death.
She had complained of dizziness.
The doctor prescribed nothing.
But the record contained a note:
Patient believes someone is poisoning her.
Mark stared.
“Why didn't she tell me?”
Rebecca answered:
“She tried.”
“What?”
“She called you.”
Mark remembered.
That night, he had been in a business meeting.
He ignored the call.
Twenty minutes later, Clara called again.
He ignored it again.
Then came the final voicemail.
Mark played it.
Clara's trembling voice said:
“Mark… please come home.”
The recording ended.
Mark covered his face.
He had missed the warning.
But then another sound could be heard in the background.
A door opening.
