Chapter 6 - THE EMPTY HOSPITAL ROOMThat night, Sophie disappeared.

I had only left her room for five minutes.

Five minutes.

When I returned, the bed was empty.

The window was open.

The security guard outside the room was unconscious.

I screamed her name.

Nurses came running.

Then the alarms began.

Detective Morales arrived within minutes.

The hospital cameras showed a woman entering the room.

She wore a nurse’s uniform.

But she was not a nurse.

She had carried Sophie out through a service corridor.

The cameras lost them at the parking garage.

Then Daniel arrived.

He looked at the footage.

“I know this woman.”

“Who is she?”

“Her name is Vanessa Cole.”

“Who does she work for?”

Daniel did not answer.

I grabbed his arm.

“Where is my daughter?”

He looked at me.

“We’ll find her.”

My phone rang.

A distorted voice spoke.

“Do you want your daughter back?”

“Yes.”

“Then bring the red envelope.”

My heart stopped.

“Where?”

“Your father’s warehouse.”

The call ended.

Detective Morales looked at me.

“You’re not going alone.”

I nodded.

But deep down, I knew something.

They had not taken Sophie because they wanted money.

May you like

They had taken her because they believed she knew something.

Something even I did not know.
