Chapter 23 - BLOOD DOES NOT CHOOSE A SIDEWe found David in an abandoned office.

He was injured.
But alive.
He had the final documents.
He had stolen them from Preston.
“I thought I could sell them,” he admitted.
I stared at him.
“You betrayed everyone.”
“I know.”
“You helped them target Sophie.”
“I know.”
“Why?”
David looked down.
“Because Dad always chose you.”
The words shocked me.
He explained that he had spent his entire life trying to become the son my father wanted.
Preston had promised him money.
Power.
Recognition.
David believed he was finally going to become important.
Instead, he became disposable.
He handed me the documents.
“I’m sorry.”
I wanted to hate him.
But he was still my brother.
Blood did not erase betrayal.
But betrayal did not erase blood either.
I took the documents.
Then the door opened.
A man stood there.
The lawyer.
My father's oldest friend.
He looked at David.
Then at me.
May you like
And said:
“You have no idea what those papers contain.”
