Chapter 17 - THE MAN IN THE PHOTOGRAPHThe place was my grandfather’s old house.

It had been empty for twenty years.
Inside, we found a wall covered with photographs.
My family.
Eleanor.
My mother.
My father.
And Margaret.
But there was another man in the photographs.
A man I recognized.
My father's lawyer.
He had been advising our family for thirty years.
Daniel looked at the photograph.
“Do you know him?”
“Yes.”
“Where is he now?”
I called my father.
He answered from prison.
When I mentioned the lawyer's name, he went silent.
Then he said:
“Do not trust him.”
“Why?”
“He was the first person who knew Eleanor was alive.”
I stared at the photograph.
The lawyer had attended the wedding.
He had stood beside Preston.
He had watched Sophie being accused.
And he had never tried to stop it.
Then we found a hidden recording.

Eleanor's voice filled the room.
“If you're hearing this, the person who betrayed me is closer than you think.”
