Chapter 16 - THE RED ENVELOPEDaniel found the missing footage hidden in an old server.
The file had been renamed.
But it had not been destroyed.
The footage showed Margaret entering the security room.
Behind her was the hotel's assistant director.
He had been working for her.
Margaret placed a small device on the desk.
Then she called someone.
The audio was faint.
But one sentence was clear.
“The child has the key.”
I froze.
Margaret had known about Sophie.
Before the wedding.
The footage continued.
Margaret turned toward the camera.
For a moment, she looked directly into the lens.
Then she smiled.
I felt cold.
She knew she was being recorded.
She wanted someone to find the footage.
The final seconds showed her leaving the room.
But before she disappeared, she placed a red envelope inside a drawer.
The same type of envelope I had found in the bridal suite.
Daniel looked at me.
“She left it for you.”
I opened the file containing the image.

Inside the envelope was a message.
