Chapter 13 - MY MOTHER’S CHOICEMy mother was found at an old family property.

She had not been injured.
But she looked exhausted.
When she saw me, she immediately hugged Sophie.
Then she turned to me.
“Your father knew about Eleanor.”
I said nothing.
“He knew she was alive.”
My hands curled into fists.
“For how long?”
“Six years.”
I stared at her.
“Six years?”
“He was paying for her medical care.”
“Then why did he tell everyone she was dead?”
My mother looked away.
“Because Eleanor refused to give him the trust.”
I felt sick.
My father had not been protecting the family.
He had been trying to control the money.
My mother continued.
“Your father believed the trust belonged to Hart Industries.”
“And Eleanor disagreed.”
“She believed it belonged to the people your father had harmed.”
I looked toward Sophie.
My daughter had inherited money that was never meant to belong to my family.
It belonged to people who had been cheated.
My mother reached into her coat.
She handed me a small envelope.
“Your father sent this.”
