I went with Daniel and Detective Morales.
She sat beside a large window.
Calm.
Elegant.
Untouchable.
“You have caused quite a mess,” she said.
I stared at her.
“You tried to take my daughter.”
“I tried to protect an investment.”
“Sophie is not an investment.”
Margaret smiled.
“That is why you will lose.”
She explained that my family had been connected to the Meridian Circle for generations.
The trust was only one part of a much larger system.
The wedding had been designed to force me into a legal mistake.
Preston had been a tool.
My father had been frightened.
My mother had been manipulated.
And I had been chosen because I was the only person who did not know the full truth.
I asked:
“Where is Preston now?”
Margaret smiled.
“Probably trying to save himself.”
Then she leaned forward.
“But you should be more worried about your brother.”
I froze.
“David?”
Margaret nodded.
“He knows where the final documents are.”
I stood.
“Where?”
She smiled.
“Ask him.”
