Chapter 25 - THE CAMERA LOOKED BACKThe final piece of evidence was hidden inside the original hotel server.

Daniel accessed it after midnight.

The screen showed the ballroom.

The wedding.

Preston planting the phone.

My father watching.

Margaret entering the security room.

But the recording continued beyond the moment we had seen before.

Margaret returned to the ballroom.

She stood near Sophie.

Then she looked directly at the camera.

And spoke.

The audio was faint.

But clear.

“She will remember.”

I froze.

Margaret had known Sophie was watching.

She had known the camera was there.

The entire accusation had been designed to make Sophie remember something.

Something she had seen years earlier.

Daniel enhanced the footage.

A small symbol appeared on the table beside Sophie.

Three lines inside a circle.

Sophie had drawn the same symbol in her notebook.

I called her.

She came into the room holding her drawing.

I showed her the symbol.

Her face changed.

“Where did you see this?”

She pointed at the screen.

“Uncle David drew it.”

My heart stopped.

“Where?”

“On Grandpa’s office door.”

Daniel immediately stood.

My father’s office.

The hidden room.

The place we had never searched.

We went there before sunrise.

Behind an old bookshelf, we found a locked door.

The symbol was carved into the wood.

The brass key opened it.

Inside was a single room.

A desk.

A camera.

And dozens of files.

At the center of the room was one photograph.

Eleanor.

Alive.

Standing beside a man none of us recognized.

On the back of the photograph were seven words:

THE WEDDING WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

I looked at Sophie.

She held my hand.

For the first time, I understood the truth.

The wedding had not ended the conspiracy.

The CCTV had not exposed everything.

It had only opened the first door.

And somewhere beyond that door was the person who had been controlling our family for decades.

The camera went dark.

But this time…

May you like

We knew where to look.
