Chapter 26 - Elizabeth’s Last Secret
Maya stepped away from Elizabeth.
“No.”
Elizabeth began crying.
“I loved you.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
“No,” Elizabeth whispered.
“I am not your biological mother.”
Maya looked at Samuel.
He nodded slowly.
“I am your father.”
“Then who is my mother?”
Nobody answered.
Victor walked toward the fireplace.
He removed a hidden photograph.
The woman in the picture looked like Maya.
Same eyes.
Same smile.
Same scar.
Her name was Anna Reed.
Victor handed the photograph to Maya.
“Your mother was my daughter.”
Maya stared at him.
The room became silent.
Victor Bell was her grandfather.
The man who had destroyed her family was her own blood.
Maya dropped the photograph.
“You knew.”
Elizabeth nodded.
“I knew from the beginning.”
“Why did you hide it?”
“Because Victor wanted you.”
Victor laughed bitterly.
“I wanted to protect my granddaughter.”
“You destroyed everyone around me.”
“I was trying to keep the Circle from finding you.”
Maya shook her head.
“Then why did you watch me?”
Victor’s face changed.
“Because someone else had already found you.”
A gunshot echoed through the mansion.
Elizabeth fell.
