Chapter 15 - The Escape
Smoke filled the underground room.
Maya fell to the floor.
Frank grabbed her hand.
“Move!”
They ran through a narrow passage.
Behind them, alarms screamed.
Arthur stayed behind.
Maya turned.
“Arthur!”
He looked at her.
“Go!”
Victor’s men poured into the room.
Frank dragged Maya forward.
They reached an emergency exit beneath the alley.
Maya stumbled into the rain.
Samuel was waiting beside a car.
“Get in!”
They drove without speaking.
Maya looked back at the restaurant.
Flames rose from the roof.
Victor had destroyed the building.
And everything inside it.
Frank stared at the drive.
“Did you copy the files?”
Maya shook her head.
“No.”
Frank smiled faintly.
“Your mother did.”
Maya looked at him.
He showed her a tiny memory card.
“I found it inside the phone.”
Maya’s heart pounded.
The phone suddenly turned on.
A video began playing.
Elizabeth appeared.
“If you are watching this, Victor has found you.”
Maya held her breath.
Elizabeth looked directly into the camera.
“Your father is not the only person you need to fear.”
The video ended.
