Chapter 23 - The Man Who Betrayed Everyone
Maya turned toward Samuel.
He looked exhausted.
Clara continued.
“Samuel did not simply betray Elizabeth.”
Samuel closed his eyes.
“He was working for the Circle.”
Maya felt sick.
“Is that true?”
Samuel said nothing.
Clara answered for him.
“He was the one who gave them your mother’s location.”
“Why?”
“Because he believed the Circle could protect you.”
Maya laughed bitterly.
“Everyone used me as an excuse.”
Samuel finally spoke.
“I made terrible choices.”
“You destroyed my family.”
“I know.”
“Did you kill Daniel?”
Samuel’s head snapped up.
“No.”
Clara stared at him.
“Didn’t you?”
Samuel looked horrified.
“I never touched him.”
Maya’s phone vibrated.
A new video appeared.
Daniel was alive.
He was sitting in a dark room.
Behind him stood Victor.
Victor looked directly at the camera.
“Maya, your father is lying.”
Then Daniel spoke.
“He killed your mother.”
The video ended.
Maya looked at Samuel.
He whispered:
May you like
“That is impossible.”
But Clara had already drawn her weapon.
