Chapter 25 - The Child Who Was Taken
Maya could not speak.
Elizabeth took her hand.
“You were six months old when I found you.”
“Found me?”
“Your biological mother was part of the Circle.”
Maya shook her head.
“No.”
“She tried to escape.”
“What happened to her?”
Elizabeth looked at Victor.
Victor answered.
“She disappeared.”
Maya stared at him.
“Because of you?”
“Because of the Circle.”
Elizabeth continued.
“I took you because I believed I could save you.”
“And Samuel?”
“Your biological father.”
Maya turned toward the door.
Samuel stood there.
His face was broken.
“I wanted to come for you.”
“But you didn’t.”
“I was afraid.”
Maya laughed through her tears.
“Everyone was afraid.”
Then Liam entered.
He looked different now.
No weakness.
No hospital gown.
He stood beside Daniel.
Maya stared at him.
“Who are you?”
Liam lowered his head.
“My name is Lucas Reed.”
Daniel looked at him.
“He is my son.”
Maya’s entire world went silent.
The brother she had spent her life protecting was not her brother.
And the man she thought was her father was a stranger.
Then Victor said:
“But there is one thing none of them knows.”
