Chapter 14 - Victor’s Offer
Victor looked exactly as he did in the photographs.
Older.
But powerful.
Maya held the drive behind her back.
“You killed Daniel.”
Victor’s expression did not change.
“Daniel was careless.”
“You killed him.”
“He discovered something he should not have.”
Arthur stepped forward.
“You promised he would live.”
Victor looked at his brother.
“And you promised me the ledger.”
Arthur’s face hardened.
“I was wrong.”
Victor smiled.
“Everyone is wrong eventually.”
He looked at Maya.
“Your mother betrayed me.”
“She tried to protect me.”
“She destroyed everything.”
Victor moved closer.
“Give me the drive, and I will tell you where she is.”
Maya’s heart stopped.
“You know where she is?”
“I know exactly where she is.”
Frank whispered:
“Don’t believe him.”
Victor laughed.
“Your mother is alive, Maya.”
Maya felt tears burn her eyes.
“Where?”
Victor pointed toward the wall.
Behind it was a screen.
A live video appeared.
An older woman sat in a dark room.
Maya recognized her instantly.
Her mother.
Elizabeth looked directly into the camera.
Then she mouthed two words.
“Run now.”

And the room exploded.
