Chapter 5 - CRITICAL DIAGNOSIS
"Dr. Harrison! How are my wife and child?" Ethan demanded, stepping forward with his heart pounding against his ribs.
"Your wife suffered severe abdominal trauma and minor internal bleeding near the placenta," Dr. Harrison reported grimly.
Ethan felt the air leave his lungs as he leaned against the wall for support.
"Is the baby... is my baby okay?" Ethan managed to ask, his voice cracking under immense emotional pressure.
"The baby is in distress. We have to perform an emergency Cesarean section right now to save them both," the doctor revealed.
"Do whatever it takes! Please, save them!" Ethan begged, tears welling in his dark eyes for the first time.
Medical staff rushed past in scrubs, pushing Clara’s bed toward the surgical suite operating room.
Clara looked at Ethan through the glass window of her bed, her oxygen mask fogging up as she tried to speak.
"I love you, Ethan..." she mouthed faintly before the doors swung shut.

Ethan collapsed into a vinyl chair in the hallway, burying his face in his hands as he prayed for a miracle.
