Chapter 2 - THE AMBULANCE RUSH
Sirens blared down the suburban Connecticut avenue as bright red and blue lights flashed against the living room windows.
Paramedics rushed into the sunlit living room with a folding stretcher and emergency medical gear.
"She’s eight months pregnant, and she took a direct strike to her abdomen!" Ethan shouted, his dark hair disheveled as he held Clara’s trembling hand.
Clara lay pale on the rug, her navy blue linen pinafore dress twisted around her legs as she gasped for air.
"Ethan... please, save our baby," Clara whimpered, tears streaming down her pale cheeks into her blonde hair.
The sister-in-law, Chloe, cowered by the large glass doors, her emerald green knit sweater shaking as she backed away.
"I didn't mean to! She tripped on the rug!" Chloe shrieked, her voice cracking with desperate, unconvincing lies.
"Shut up, Chloe!" Ethan snapped, his black leather jacket creasing as he stood up to face her with pure venom in his eyes.
"The police are outside, and you are going straight to a cell," he growled through gritted teeth.
