Chapter 3 - ARREST IN THE SUBURBS
"Officer, that woman violently assaulted my pregnant wife!" Ethan declared, pointing directly at Chloe.
Chloe’s long dark wavy hair fell over her face as she backed against the framed US flag on the wall.
"This is a family misunderstanding! He’s lying!" Chloe screamed, her black fitted jeans squeaking as she resisted the officer's grip.
A female trooper pulled Chloe’s arms firmly behind her back, clicking heavy steel handcuffs shut around her wrists.
"Chloe Miller, you are under arrest for felony assault and reckless endangerment of an unborn child," the trooper stated coldly.
"Ethan, don't do this! Mom and Dad will destroy you for this!" Chloe yelled as she was marched out the front door.
Ethan turned his back on her hysterical screams, focusing entirely on the paramedics lifting Clara onto the gurney.
"Heart rate is elevated, but fetal heartbeat is still detectable," a paramedic reported, securing oxygen over Clara’s face.
Ethan climbed into the back of the ambulance, holding Clara's cold fingers in his warm, protective grip.
