Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN WHO DISAPPEAREDEleanor looked at Lily.

“Where is your mother?”

Lily pointed toward the old neighborhood.

“Near the train station.”

Eleanor immediately turned toward her driver.

“Take us there.”

Marcus stepped in front of her.

“No.”

Eleanor stared at him.

“You are not taking her anywhere.”

Marcus looked nervous.

“She is not your daughter.”

Eleanor's eyes narrowed.

“You know who I am?”

Marcus said nothing.

That was enough.

Eleanor looked at Lily.

“Does he hurt you?”

Lily immediately shook her head.

But she did not look at Marcus.

Eleanor understood.

She knelt in front of Lily.

“You can tell me the truth.”

Lily looked at her.

Then whispered:

“My uncle says I must never talk about my mother.”

Eleanor stood up.

She looked at Marcus.

“Why?”

Marcus stepped backward.

“You don't understand.”

“No,” Eleanor said.

“I understand enough.”

Marcus suddenly turned and ran.

Lily stood frozen.

Eleanor reached for her hand.

“Don't worry.”

Lily looked up.

“Are you going to take me away?”

Eleanor shook her head.

“No.”

May you like

Then she gently said:

“I am going to find your mother.”
