Chapter 10 - THE FIRST LIEEleanor went to find the former lawyer.
His name was Richard Cole.
He was now living in another city.
When Eleanor arrived at his office, he immediately tried to close the door.
But she stopped him.
“You told me my daughter was dead.”
Richard became pale.
“I did what I was told.”
“By whom?”
He said nothing.
Eleanor stepped closer.
“Who?”
Richard looked frightened.
“Your husband.”
Eleanor's expression changed.
“Why?”
Richard lowered his voice.
“Because Anna had found the financial records.”
“What records?”
“Money was being transferred out of the company.”
Eleanor stared at him.
“By whom?”
Richard shook his head.
“I don't know.”
But Eleanor knew he was lying.
She placed a folder on the desk.
Inside were copies of the old transactions.
Richard looked at them.
His face collapsed.
“You found them.”
“Yes.”
Richard sat down.
After twenty years…
