Chapter 3 - THE MAN WHO CAME RUNNINGThe man was Lily's uncle, Marcus.

He ran toward her.
“Lily, what are you doing?”
The girl quickly stepped backward.
“I was selling flowers.”
Marcus looked at Eleanor.
Then at the necklace.
His expression became nervous.
Eleanor noticed.
“Who are you?”
Marcus did not answer.
He grabbed Lily's arm.
The girl winced.
Eleanor immediately stepped forward.
“Let her go.”
Marcus looked at her.
“This is a family matter.”
Eleanor looked at Lily.
“Are you okay?”
Lily nodded quickly.
But her eyes were frightened.
Marcus pulled her closer.
“We have to go.”
Eleanor watched him.
Something was wrong.
She had seen fear in Lily's eyes before.
Not fear of a stranger.
Fear of someone she knew.
Eleanor looked again at the golden necklace.
The tiny flower.
The heart-shaped pendant.
The mark she had placed there herself.
It could not be a coincidence.
“Wait,” Eleanor said.
Marcus stopped.
Eleanor looked at Lily.
“Who gave you that necklace?”
Lily looked at Marcus.
Then back at Eleanor.
“My mother.”
Eleanor's voice trembled.
“What is your mother's name?”
Lily slowly whispered:
“Anna.”
Eleanor stopped breathing.
May you like
Anna.
That had been her daughter's name.
