Chapter 12 - THE EMPTY APARTMENTEleanor drove to Anna's apartment.
The door was open.
The room was empty.
The bed was overturned.
Lily's flowers were scattered across the floor.
Eleanor's heart began racing.
She called the police.
Then she saw something.
The golden heart necklace was lying on the floor.
Eleanor picked it up.
The chain had been broken.
She looked around the room.
There was a message written on the wall.
YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT THE PAST ALONE.
Eleanor immediately knew.
This was not about money anymore.
This was about revenge.
She contacted every person she trusted.
Security teams searched the city.
Police checked cameras.
Hours passed.
Then Eleanor received a message.
A photograph.
Anna and Lily were sitting in a car.
The message contained one sentence:
BRING THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS.
Eleanor looked at the files.
The evidence.
The proof.
The truth.
She understood.
The kidnappers wanted the records destroyed.
But Eleanor had another plan.
She would give them what they wanted.
