Chapter 9 - The Secret In The Family Name

Marcus read the documents again.
And again.
Because his mind refused to accept them.
“This is fake.”
Victor shook his head.
“No.”
Marcus looked at Elena.
“Did you know?”
She didn’t answer.
That was enough.
Marcus stepped back.
“You knew.”
Elena whispered:
“I found out recently.”
“You knew my entire life was built on a lie.”
“I was trying to protect myself.”
Marcus laughed.
“Everyone says that when they’re caught.”
Victor looked at him.
“Marcus, listen to me.”
“No.”
Marcus held up the papers.
“You both used me.”
Victor’s expression softened.
“I tried to stop it.”
“You disappeared.”
“I had to.”
“Why?”
Victor looked away.
“Because our father tried to have me removed.”
Marcus froze.
“Our father?”
Victor nodded.
“He knew the truth.”
Sarah looked at the papers.
“What truth?”
Victor pointed.
“The company was never supposed to belong to Marcus.”
Silence.
“The original inheritance belonged to someone else.”
Marcus’s heart raced.
“Who?”
Victor looked directly at him.
“You.”
Marcus frowned.
“What?”
Victor continued.
“You were adopted.”
The words destroyed the room.
Marcus stared.
“No.”
“It’s true.”
“No.”
He backed away.
“My parents…”
“They loved you.”
Victor’s voice softened.
“But they hid the truth.”
Marcus couldn’t breathe.
Everything he knew.
Everything he remembered.
Suddenly felt uncertain.
Then Elena spoke.
“There’s more.”
Everyone turned.
Her face was pale.
“What?”
She looked at Marcus.
“The person who ordered Victor’s disappearance…”
She swallowed.
“Was your father.”
Marcus stared.
Impossible.
Then his phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
A voice whispered:
“Marcus…”
He froze.
Because he knew that voice.
May you like
His father.
The man who had been dead for ten years.
