Chapter 5 - The Man From The Past
The next morning, Marcus found Adrian standing outside the mansion.
“You knew her before.”
Adrian didn’t deny it.
“Yes.”
“How?”
Adrian looked away.
“She ruined my family.”
Marcus’s expression hardened.
“Explain.”
Adrian took a deep breath.
“Fifteen years ago, my father was accused of stealing from the Whitmore company.”
Marcus froze.
“My father lost everything.”
Adrian continued.
“He died believing everyone hated him.”
“And Elena?”
Adrian looked directly at Marcus.
“She was the person who gave the evidence.”
Marcus felt a chill.
“But why would she do that?”
“Because she wanted power.”
Before Marcus could answer, his phone rang.
Detective Sarah.
“Marcus, you need to come back to the mansion.”
“Why?”
Her voice became serious.
“We found something hidden inside the security system.”
Marcus frowned.
“What?”
“A second camera.”
He stopped walking.
“A second camera?”
“Yes.”
Sarah paused.
“And Marcus…”
“What?”
“The footage shows Elena wasn’t alone that night.”
Marcus’s heartbeat increased.
“Who was with her?”
A long silence followed.
Then Sarah said:
“The person standing beside her…”
“Was someone you trusted.”
