Chapter 54 - THE FINAL RECORDINGThe hidden room contained one final file.
A recording.
Eleanor had made it before her death.
In it, she named the person responsible.
Not my father.
Not my mother.
Not Preston.
The person was the chairman of Hart Industries.
The man who had controlled the company before my father.
The man who had secretly stolen the employee funds.
My father had discovered the truth.
Eleanor had discovered the truth.
My mother had discovered the truth.
But the chairman had powerful friends.
He had manipulated everyone.
He had turned the family against itself.
He had convinced my father that Eleanor had betrayed him.
He had convinced Preston that the money belonged to him.
And he had used the wedding to force the trust into court.
But there was one thing he had never expected.
A hidden CCTV backup.
A little girl who survived.
And a mother who refused to stay silent.
The recording ended with Eleanor looking directly into the camera.
“If my niece ever sees this…”
She paused.
“Tell her I was sorry.”
I covered my mouth.
May you like
Then I whispered:
“I know.”
