Chapter 49 - THE BROTHER WHO WASN'T AT THE WEDDINGMy brother David had disappeared before the police arrived.

He had claimed he was searching for a lawyer.
But he had never contacted one.
His phone was turned off.
His car was missing.
Detective Morales issued a warrant.
Then Daniel Cho found something.
The hotel security system showed David entering the bridal suite.
Two hours before the wedding.
He had used my father's access card.
Inside the room, he opened the safe.
But he did not take the red envelope.
He left it behind.
Why?
Because he had been interrupted.
By Lauren.
Lauren had seen him.
She had not known what he was doing.
But she had remembered something.
David had been speaking to someone on the phone.
The only words she heard were:
“The child will be blamed before midnight.”
I sat in silence.
My brother had not merely watched the plan.
He had helped design it.
Then my phone rang.
It was David.
His voice was shaking.
“Please.”
I said nothing.
“I'm in trouble.”
I answered:
“You put my daughter in danger.”
“I know.”
“Where are you?”
May you like
He whispered:
“Come alone.”
