Chapter 51 - THE ROOM BENEATH THE OFFICEThe entrance was hidden behind a bookshelf.

The room beneath the office was small.
Cold.
And completely sealed.
Inside were boxes of documents.
Old photographs.
Hard drives.
And a single desk.
On the desk was a photograph of Eleanor Vale.
Beside it was a photograph of Sophie.
I felt sick.
My father had been tracking my daughter for years.
David stood behind me.
“I didn't know about this.”
I turned toward him.
“You knew enough.”
He lowered his head.
Then I saw the final box.
It contained the trust documents.
But there was something else.
A handwritten journal.
Eleanor's journal.
The first page contained one sentence:
I DID NOT HIDE THE MONEY FROM THEM. I HID THE TRUTH.
I turned the page.
The next sentence was even worse.
THE PERSON WHO STOLE FROM HART INDUSTRIES IS NOT MY BROTHER.
I stared at the words.
My father had not stolen the money.
Then who had?
At the bottom of the page was a name.
May you like
A name I recognized.
My mother.
