Chapter 48 - WHAT PRESTON REALLY WANTEDThe trust contained millions.
But Preston did not want the money.
He wanted control.
The trust contained evidence.
Evidence that could destroy Hart Industries.
Evidence that could send my father to prison.
Evidence that could expose the people who had stolen millions.
Preston had discovered that the trust could only be accessed when Sophie turned eighteen.
Unless the legal guardian was forced to surrender control.
That was why he had created the wedding scandal.
He wanted to prove that I was an unfit mother.
If Sophie were removed from my care…
The trust would be placed under court supervision.
And Preston could manipulate the process.
I stared at my mother.
“He wanted to take my daughter.”
My mother nodded.
“And your father helped him.”
I felt something inside me break.
Not because I was surprised.
But because some part of me had still hoped my father had not been involved.
Then my mother said:
“There is one more thing.”
“What?”
“Preston wasn't the person who created the plan.”
I looked at her.
“Who was?”
May you like
She whispered:
“Your brother.”
