Chapter 37 - THE MORNING AFTER THE TRUTHThe ballroom was empty by sunrise.

The flowers were still there.
The wedding cake was untouched.
And the wooden board that had nearly destroyed my daughter’s life had been taken away as evidence.
Sophie was still asleep in the hospital.
I sat beside her bed, watching the slow rise and fall of her chest.
For the first time since the wedding, I allowed myself to breathe.
The truth had been exposed.
The CCTV had shown everything.
Preston had planted the phone.
My father had watched him.
And my mother had known.
But the police still had questions.
And so did I.
At 7:14 a.m., Detective Morales entered the room.
He held a brown envelope.
“Ms. Hart,” he said carefully.
I looked at him.
“What is it?”
He placed the envelope on the table.
“The security footage from the ballroom was not the only thing recovered.”
My heart tightened.
“What else was there?”
The detective looked toward Sophie.
Then back at me.
“Something recorded before your daughter ever entered the ballroom.”
I opened the envelope.
Inside was a photograph.
It showed my father.
Standing beside Preston.
Three hours before the wedding.

And in my father's hand was a small black device.
The same device used to access the hotel's security system.
