Chapter 39 - THE WOMAN IN THE GREEN DRESSThe police found her name within hours.
Her name was Vanessa Cole.
She was not a wedding guest.
She was not hotel staff.
And she had no reason to be in the parking garage.
But she had been present during the entire incident.
The police brought her in for questioning.
I watched from behind the glass.
Vanessa sat calmly in the interview room.
She looked like someone who had never been afraid of consequences.
When Detective Morales entered, she smiled.
“I assume this is about the wedding.”
“It is.”
“I already told the officers everything I saw.”
The detective placed a photograph on the table.
Vanessa's smile disappeared.
It showed her standing beside my father.
The same morning.
The same parking garage.
The same black device.
She said nothing.
The detective leaned forward.
“Who hired you?”
Vanessa looked toward the camera.
Then she said:
“You should ask your mother.”
My blood went cold.
The detective frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Vanessa smiled again.
“Ruth Hart knows exactly why I was there.”
I stared at the glass.
My mother.
The woman who had told me:
“Don’t worry. We’ll fix this.”
