There was no account under my mother's name.
No hidden transfer.
No secret offshore company.
Nothing.
Then Daniel Cho contacted me.
He had found something in the hotel system.
The black device used by my father had accessed a private server.
The server was not owned by the hotel.
It belonged to Hart Industries.
I stared at him.
“Why would my father access the company's server from the hotel?”
Daniel answered:
“Because someone had hidden the account there.”
The account had been created under a false identity.
But the identity had been used only once.
The name was:
Eleanor Vale.
I had never heard of her.
Then my mother called.
Her voice was barely audible.
“Do not trust your father.”
I froze.
“Where are you?”
“I can't tell you.”
“Mom, Sophie was almost arrested.”
“I know.”
“You knew this was going to happen?”
There was a long silence.
Then she said:
“No.”
May you like
Her voice broke.
“But I knew something worse was coming.”
