Chapter 7 - The Pale Mother
Sarah stumbled backward, her hands flying to her mouth as she stared down into the open vault. The woman trapped inside was not a stranger—she was Martha Vance, the original owner of the estate and Sarah’s own mother-in-law, whom the family had claimed two years ago had "passed away peacefully in a nursing home abroad."
"Sarah... you wicked girl... you left me down here in the dark..." Martha whimpered, her voice cracking as tears tracked through the dirt on her aged cheeks. Sarah shook her head frantically, backing away from the pit as her lies completely unraveled.
