Chapter 2 - The Desperate Strike
Driven by a sudden, intense curiosity, Lily abandoned the wheelbarrow and scurried over to the hatch. Resting beside an old bucket was a heavy wooden mallet used for driving stakes into the soil. Without hesitating, Lily picked up the tool with both hands, raised it high above her head, and brought it crashing down onto the rusted wooden latch.
Clang! The sound echoed loudly through the glass structure. The adults at the dining table stopped eating instantly, turning their heads in shock as Lily swung the mallet a second time with all her might.
