Chapter 14 - Calling the Authorities
Realizing that the walls were closing in, the grandfather tried to sneak quietly toward the exit doors leading out of the greenhouse. "Where do you think you're going, old man?" one of the estate gardeners shouted, stepping directly into his path and blocking the doorway.
Sarah collapsed onto a garden chair, burying her face in her hands as she wept—not from remorse, but because she knew they had lost everything. David stood frozen like a cornered animal, staring at his mother with a mix of fear and hatred.
