Chapter 9 - The Rose Arbor Wedding

On a breathtaking Saturday in September, our wedding was held on the private lakefront lawn of our Lake Forest estate.

The grounds were transformed into a fairy tale of cascading white roses, blooming lavender, and glowing crystal chandeliers hanging from ancient oak trees. Over two hundred of our closest friends, colleagues, and family doctors sat beneath the azure autumn sky.

I stood at the altar in an immaculate black tuxedo with a white silk bow tie, my heart racing with anticipation.

The string quartet began playing Pachelbel’s Canon.

Walking down the rose-petal-strewn aisle as the flower girls were Maisie and Rosie, looking like angelic princesses in matching white lace dresses with delicate pink satin sashes, tossing rose petals with radiant, proud smiles.

Then, the archway opened.

Elise walked down the aisle on the arm of Dr. Harrison, our trusted family physician who had become like a second father to her. She wore a breathtaking, custom-tailored ivory lace gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a flowing cathedral veil that caught the afternoon breeze. She was the most radiant, magnificent vision I had ever seen.

When she reached my side, I took her trembling hand, lifting her veil to look into her beautiful, tear-filled brown eyes.

"Dominic," Elise spoke during her vows, her voice clear and resonant with love. "You protected me when the world was against me. You gave my father justice, and you opened your heart to love again. I vow to cherish you, stand beside you, and love our daughters with every beat of my heart, for all the days of my life."

"Elise," I replied, slipping the diamond band onto her finger. "You brought sunshine into the coldest winter of my soul. You taught me that true power is not found in fear, but in the fierce, unconditional love of family. I vow to protect you, honor you, and love you beyond measure, for all eternity."

When the officiant pronounced us husband and wife, I lifted Elise into my arms, kissing her beneath the warm golden sun as our guests erupted into thunderous, joyful cheers, and our daughters clapped with pure delight.
