Chapter 6 - The Fall of Victor Rossi

At 2:00 AM the following morning, a coordinated strike force of thirty Caruso tactical operators, accompanied by eighty federal agents from the Department of Justice and the FBI, descended upon the Cicero industrial complex.

Using the master override schematic from Mateo Navarro’s memory card, federal agents bypassed the biometric security grid in less than sixty seconds.

Inside the subterranean vaults, federal prosecutors uncovered two hundred million dollars in untaxed illicit cash, international trafficking manifests, and unredacted digital recordings detailing twenty years of political bribery orchestrated by Victor Rossi.

Simultaneously, my tactical team breached Rossi’s lakefront fortress in Highland Park.

Victor Rossi was pulled from his master bed in his silk pajamas, pinned against the marble floor by federal marshals as a thirty-four-count federal indictment was read aloud.

I walked into Rossi’s grand foyer, dressed in my black suit and overcoat, looking down at the aging don in steel handcuffs.

"Caruso!" Rossi spat, struggling against the marshals. "You used that carpenter's brat to destroy my life!"

"Mateo Navarro was an honest man who built things with his hands, Victor," I replied coldly. "You were a parasite who stole from the innocent. You took his life, but his daughter took your empire."

As federal transport vans hauled Rossi away into the freezing Chicago night to face a lifetime in federal penitentiary, the last shadow over my household was permanently erased.
