Chapter 7 - THE NAME SHE DID NOT GIVEClara asked the woman her name.

The elderly woman hesitated.

“Margaret.”

“Margaret what?”

The woman smiled sadly.

“Just Margaret.”

Clara did not push.

“Okay, Margaret.”

Margaret slowly ate her soup.

She had not enjoyed a meal like this in years.

Not because the food was expensive.

Because someone had invited her to sit.

Someone had looked at her.

Someone had treated her like a human being.

Clara noticed the way Margaret held her spoon.

Her hands were rough.

There were small scars on her fingers.

“You worked with your hands?”

Margaret nodded.

“Most of my life.”

“What did you do?”

Margaret looked toward the restaurant.

“I used to own a place like this.”

Clara smiled.

“Really?”

Margaret nodded.

“Many years ago.”

“What happened?”

Margaret looked away.

“Someone took it from me.”

Clara's smile disappeared.

Before she could ask more…

Margaret's phone began ringing.

She looked at the screen.

Her face suddenly changed.
