Chapter 16 - THE APOLOGY THAT CAME TOO LATEThe security guard who had stopped Margaret at the restaurant came to see her.
He looked embarrassed.
“I wanted to apologize.”
Margaret nodded.
“You already did.”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“I apologized because my boss told me to.”
Margaret looked at him.
He continued:
“I should have treated you like a human being before I knew who you were.”
Margaret was silent.
Then she said:
“That is all I ever wanted.”
The guard lowered his head.
Clara watched quietly.
The man continued:
“I judged you because of your clothes.”
Margaret smiled sadly.
“Many people do.”
He looked at her.
“But I will not do it again.”
Margaret nodded.
“Then perhaps something good came from that day.”
Clara smiled.
The guard walked away.
Margaret looked at Clara.
“You changed many things.”
Clara shook her head.
“No.”
