Chapter 3 - A SEAT AT THE TABLEThe elderly woman seemed afraid.

She looked at Clara.
Then at the security guard.
“Are you sure?”
Clara nodded.
“Of course.”
The guard stepped aside.
The elderly woman slowly entered the restaurant.
Several guests began staring.
Some whispered.
One woman covered her mouth and laughed.
The old woman noticed.
Her shoulders lowered.
Clara saw it.
She gently touched her arm.
“Don't worry about them.”
The old woman looked at her.
“Why are you helping me?”
Clara smiled.
“Because you look hungry.”
The woman became silent.
That simple question seemed to hurt her more than the guard's rejection.
Clara led her to the table.
The elderly woman sat carefully.
A waiter approached.
He looked uncertain.
Clara handed him the menu.
“Please bring us two meals.”
The waiter looked at the old woman's clothes.
Then at Clara.
Clara's expression hardened.
“Did you hear me?”
The waiter immediately nodded.
“Yes, ma'am.”
The old woman looked down at the table.
She whispered:
“I don't need anything expensive.”
May you like
Clara smiled.
“Then we will order something you like.”
