The affair had begun because Evelyn had wanted revenge.
Robert had been planning to divorce her.
He had intended to leave the company to Emma.
Evelyn had discovered the plan.
She panicked.
Daniel had suggested another solution.
If Evelyn gained control of the company, she could protect herself.
But there was a problem.
Robert's shares were protected.
Unless he signed them away.
Or died.
Emma stared at her mother.
“Were you planning to kill him?”
Evelyn began sobbing.
“No.”
Daniel said nothing.
Emma looked at him.
“You knew.”
He lowered his eyes.
“I knew the plan was dangerous.”
“Dangerous?”
Emma slammed her hand against the table.
“You were stealing from my father!”
Daniel finally shouted:
“We never planned to kill him!”
The room fell silent.
Then Robert asked:
“What did you plan?”
Daniel's face collapsed.
He admitted they had intended to drug Robert.
Make him appear mentally unstable.
Then force him to sign control of the company.
The life insurance would protect Evelyn if anything went wrong.
Emma stared at her mother.
The woman who had once tucked her into bed.
