Chapter 7 - THE OTHER DAUGHTERClaire Bennett was alive.

Emma found her living in a small town two hours away.
She went alone.
Claire opened the door.
The moment she saw Emma, her face changed.
“You look like him.”
Emma froze.
“Like who?”
Claire did not answer.
Then a young woman appeared behind her.
She was twenty-two.
Emma's age.
Same dark eyes as Robert.
Same sharp jaw.
Same expression.
Emma stared.
The young woman stared back.
Her name was Lily Bennett.
And she was Robert Carter's daughter.
Emma felt the world collapse.
Robert had another daughter.
A daughter he had hidden.
For twenty-two years.
She returned home that night in silence.
Robert was waiting.
He knew.
“You met Claire.”
Emma nodded.
“And Lily.”
Robert closed his eyes.
Emma's voice shook.
“You have a daughter.”
“I made mistakes.”
“You abandoned her.”
“I was young.”
“You were thirty.”
He said nothing.
Emma began crying.
Her mother had betrayed her father.
Her father had abandoned another child.
And somehow, both of them had spent twenty years pretending to be a perfect family.
Emma looked at him.
“Did Mom know?”
Robert did not answer.
Emma whispered:
“Oh my God.”
Her mother had known.
May you like
The golden veneer was cracking.
And underneath it was rot.
