Chapter 12 - THE WOMAN WHO LOST EVERYTHINGEvelyn was released on bail.

But her life had already collapsed.
Robert filed for divorce.
The company removed her from the board.
Her friends disappeared.
Her social circle abandoned her.
The woman who had spent years pretending to have everything now had nothing.
She went to Emma.
“Please.”
Emma stood at the doorway.
“What do you want?”
“I want my daughter.”
Emma's face hardened.
“You lost the right to call me that when you chose lies over us.”
Evelyn began crying.
“I made mistakes.”
“You made choices.”
“I was lonely.”
“You had a husband.”
“He didn't love me.”
“Then you should have left.”
Evelyn looked at her daughter.
“Do you hate me?”
Emma was silent.
Finally, she said:
May you like
“I don't know.”
And that was the most honest answer she could give.
